Day 9: Alamoso, Colorado to Ouray, Colorado

This day brought one of our favorite "detours" of our entire trip. We knew certain national park, landmarks and areas that we wanted to see when we began our trip. We were loosely following a schedule adjusting for weather changes (like no clouds is no good for landscape photography) and new things we found along the way that we wanted to see. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip was the fact that we could adjust day to day to spend more time seeing the places that we enjoyed most.

When left Alamoso, Colorado headed in the direction of New Mexico. In one of our stops along the way, it was mentioned to us that the Million Dollar Highway was nearby. Now, we had never heard of the Million Dollar Highway but with a name like that how could we not be curious? We changed directions and headed that way and I will always be thankful that we did. Thus far, this drive ranks in the top 5 (maybe top 3) of the most beautiful drives that I think we have driven in the entire United States!! I can't wait to see this drive in all the other seasons either!

It very quickly became apparent how the Million Dollar Highway received its name. These views are definitely "Million Dollar" views. The entire road just kept getting more and more spectacular!

These pictures are just from the beginning of the drive. There was much more to see along the Million Dollar Highway and it led to one of our favorite places of the entire trip- Ouray, Colorado!
