Day 2: St. Louis, Missouri to Kansas City, Missouri

Day 2 was a rest day after we drove across 4 states the day before. However, everyone was still in good spirits after our day in St. Louis so we decided to travel a little further west so we would be even closer to Colorado (our next major destination) the following day. So day 2 included a little travel as well.

After visiting the St. Louis Zoo and the Gateway Arch for the day, we decided to drive a little further along the route before bedtime.

We stopped in Missouri just shy of the Kansas before for bedtime on Day 2. We were up and going again the next morning across the plains of Kansas towards our next destination- Denver, Colorado. Kansas was full of flat spaces, tall grasses, wind turbines and oil rigs.

We saw a beautiful sunset while on the road and rolled into Kansas City in time for supper and bed!
Tomorrow we should reach Denver!

St. Louis Zoo and Gateway Arch

We were all definitely ready for a break from the car for most of the day after our day of driving yesterday. We went from being in the car most of the day to walking and walking all around the St. Louis Zoo. Yes, when it became clear that we were going to be able to come out west, I began to look into some kid friendly stops along our route. St. Louis has a huge and free zoo with penguins!! Bekah started asking several months ago about going to a zoo with penguins and there were none within about 4 hours of home, but God sent us right through a city with 4 different kinds of penguins and 2 different kinds of puffins to see!

After we saw a few of the sights of St. Louis, we made our way to the St. Louis Zoo.

We all loved the penguins, especially Rebekah. Though they are quite smelly, they were so much fun to watch!

After our time at the zoo, we headed out to see more of St. Louis and find the Gateway Arch!

We were all pretty hungry after a full day of seeing the zoo, walking and exploring. We found a delicious Italian restaurant for supper complete with a trolley car inside the restaurant!
We swung back by the Arch for one more view at night. We decided to drive a little further west before finishing our day to be closer to Colorado tomorrow!
